Apple in Ireland: European commission waiting for money return

The American corporation Apple has not yet refunded to the European Commission 13 billion euros of tax benefits illegally obtained in Ireland. The payment term was set for the third of January.

European Commissioner for the questions of competition Margret Vestager noted that the tax refund is complicated by a large amount of payments: "I understand that such a transfer is not easy due to the size of the amount, so you need to think carefully about how to do it. This is not a targeted escrow account, in which in some cases you can transfer 25 or even 30 million euros. Therefore, I take into account the complexity that has arisen. The company will need more time settled."

Last December, Apple Corporation and the Ministry of Finance of Ireland appealed the decision of the European Commission.

Meanwhile, Apple said that in early February, the company will transfer its international assets related to digital content, from Luxembourg to the Irish city of Cork. These are services iTunes Store, Apple Music, App Store and iBooks Store. By estimations of observers, the amount of assets can make about nine billion euro.
