What do you think about situations on the Irish roads during the last years? Do you know that only third of people in Ireland who were caught driving while on the phone were convicted in the courts. Such information said recently AA Ireland. In its mind, such fact makes a “serious problem”. Administration must take control under using mobiles while driving.
People Driving While on the Phone in Ireland
There is some statistic from January 2015 to March 2017(supplied by the Minister for Justice): number of people using their mobile while driving and who were listed in the district court is 12,143. Only 4,428 from them were convicted. 1,224 were listed as “persons not convicted”, in 3,566 cases summons was never served and 3,036 – other different reasons.
Conor Faughnan (director of consumer affairs at AA Ireland) thinks “something has got to be wrong there”. He told about abnormal data that we are looking at. Such numbers shows serious problems with administration on his mind and situation is very unsatisfactory. It isn’t important whether service, court's or gardai administration we are talking about. There are some questions to gardais who catch people when they are breaking rules on the roads. For example, every month they catch nearly 500 people. But it is hard to understand why 2/3 of them are not guilty.
Laws must defend safety on the road in Ireland. And it is good in stacking up against existing laws in EU. And administration must follow it because situation is not easy. For example, recently AA Ireland made survey and found that half of drivers see people driving while on the phone every day. We must do something with it!
