A couple of reasons and ways to get creative about occupations during summer

In our Northern culture, summer is commonly associated with long lasting warm, pleasure of social interactions, infinite leisure and general happiness, especially amongst youngsters. For the majority of those, it is the only period when the freedom from scholar work and academic assignments enables differentiation of activities. Taking a nap from the boring routine, trying new sports, visiting sights, partying or doing whatever else they find enjoyable is essential in terms of “having a good time” during the summer.

Nevertheless, due to those, sometimes, unrealistic expectations many people fall victim to this concept, suffering from the lack of finances (students are usually the poorest and the least economically independent layer of population), difficulties related to summer jobs and internships (being occasionally really hard and poorly remunerated). They might find all of this too complicated and energy-worthy, ending by passing their whole summer practicing “Netflix and Chill” or some other type of indoor socially isolated activity.

Long hours of sitting or lying without any purpose and movement are scientifically proved to have a negative effect on mental and physical health of an individual, disimproving the hormone levels, sometimes leading to depression, bad digestion and general weakness. Thinking about the consequences of monotone leisure, psychological effect is even more devastating, as the unwillingness of progressing, trying new things or meeting new people cannot lead to anything, but to eternal dissatisfaction and bad health.

Regarding all the mentioned above, it is crucial to notice that even though staying active and productive during the summer may impose some challenges, it is an important and, which is a big relief, an achievable goal. Even when incurring transportation problems and restrictions related with the lack of funds and time, luckily, some types of summer activities do not depend on these factors and are available for everyone.

One very popular budget-friendly way of spending summer holidays is visiting festivals or passing time in the countryside with friends. This is usually pretty affordable and does not impose any significant expenses, especially when the transportation and accommodation fees are minimized by couch surfing and fellow travelling. While the price is cheap such events tend to include a lot of activities, organized by other active people who find such leisure way more attractive, than fancy parties or glamorous nights. The essential part here is being true, being creative and, what is the most important, to wish having fun.

Other things to take advantage of during summer are special offers provided by companies, willing to attract the students and lower-income population. These include cinemas, sport and art schools, gyms, masterclasses. Some of them even sort very favorable proposals of long-term memberships for a very cheap price. A gym membership purchased for the summer period can help you to remain motivated, as you already spend the money on it and you definitely have to get the maximized benefit from the deal. Apart from this, sports help improving the hormone levels by releasing natural stimulators such as dopamine and serotonin, making you feel happy and full of energy for the rest of the day. It also helps strengthening the cardiac and muscular systems, losing body fat, which is critical for many people before “the beach season”, when they want to look attractive and fit in bath suits. Sports have a positive effect on daily activities, distracting you from them for a while, this way reducing the mental fatigue caused by routine work and constant concentration. The diminished stress level brings with itself better sleep, creating a vicious circle of positive, healthy and productive habits making your life fuller than ever before.

Family time has a special place in the summer schedule. Seeing your parents, relatives and best friends is essential for happiness, as these people help you realizing, how other people are precious to you. And they will be always here for you, to feel free to do whatever you want together, not limiting yourself by social predispositions and stereotypes. True friends and your family will always support you in becoming a better version of yourself

Instead of modern appliances, which are designed to make peoples leisure more easily accessible, and due to this, less fulfilling, try the old, more sophisticated types of leisure, improving imagination and cognitive skills, like reading. They are not called portals in other worlds for nothing: books open a unique universe, which you create by yourself in your mind using your own associations and esthetic vision. The cost of books in the nowadays world is not an issue anymore with the introduction of electronic books and rent of these in libraries.

More sensible individuals find it useful to combine working and leisure during summer. When they face difficulties with recruitment, due to their not very impressive CV or lack of experience, many of these brave youngsters volunteer for non-remunerated jobs, so they get experience and help society. This helps them feel more confident about their competence and happies for helping people.

Thereby, you now see that there are plenty of ways to spend your summer productively and get both financial and moral satisfaction from your holidays, so get creative!
