Man arrested after travelling up River Liffey in stolen boat

Emergency services spent their morning trying to stop the craft as it travelled through the city centre

A man has been arrested after a small boat was stolen and taken up the River Liffey this morning.

Gardai at Store street station were called to the scene after the leisure boat was taken from Poolbeg Marina near Ringsend shortly before 6am.

The boat was then taken up the Liffey and through the city centre, with four males believed to be on board at the time.

Gardai, Dublin Fire Brigade and the Coast Guard responded to the incident and one male was arrested.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardai at Store Street garda station were called to Poolbeg Marina this morning.

"A small pleasure boat with an outgoing engine was taken without the consent of the owner.

There were four males on board.

"Gardai and the coast guard responded to the incident and one man was arrested."
