First photos show extensive fire damage at historic Village Inn pub in Celbridge

These pictures show the extensive damage done to a historic Co Kildare pub in an overnight fire.

A Garda investigation has been launched after the blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning at The Village Inn on Main Street in Celbridge.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at 3:35am.

The photos show that one particular area towards the front of the pub was worst affected by the fire.

Gardai have sealed off the area pending a technical examination.

The pub is widely-regarded as a former brewery site where Arthur Guinness is believed to have brewed his first beer.

The pub is one of Celbridge's busiest and employs around 20 people in the area.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that an investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the fire.

He told Dublin Live: "Gardaí at Celbridge are investigating a fire at a licensed premises in the town overnight. The incident was reported at 3.35am this morning.

"The scene is currently preserved pending a Garda technical examination."
