Ballymun residents outrage as growing trees damaged beyond repair in Poppintree Park

One resident described the irreversible damage as "absolutely dreadful".

Residents in Ballymun have shared their outrage following irreversible damage to trees growing in Poppintree Park.

A picture of the damage was shared in the Tribute to old Ballymun Facebook group, and showed the tree lying on the pathway after being snapped at its trunk.

A local resident took to the group to share the image, and said: "Silver birch tree Poppintree Park this morning. Probably 5 years old, probably would have been there for two hundred years. Snapped in a couple of minutes- figure that out!"

There was outrage from residents who commented on the picture, with one saying that it was "absolutely dreadful".

Another added: "Growing up there I completely took all the green space we had around us for granted. Really is a lovely park, such a damned shame to see it being treated like that."

While one said: "No respect for the park whatsoever. Walking through it the other day with my 9 yr old. And in the trees there was a load of teenage lads drinking and god knows what else. In the playground there were loads more. My daughter wouldn't even go in because of them.Such a shame because its a lovely park."
