Revealed: Where Ireland ranks in the top-10 fast-food eating nations

Ireland is among the top 10 fast-food-eating nations on the planet, according to new figures.

We forked out €262 per head on convenience foods like burgers, pizzas and chips in 2016 - writes independent.ie.

Ireland is also continuing its love affair with high-calorie convenience meals, with a rise in our per capita spend last year.

Euromonitor International revealed that while Ireland is number 10 on the list of the top fast-food consuming countries, the US is top, followed by Australia and Canada.

Ireland, Finland and the United Kingdom are the only three European countries to make it into the top-10 list, which also includes the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.

Pizza was the most rapidly growing category last year, even though it was a small share of the total market.

But the report said burgers were by far the most popular category of fast food in this country.
