Couple, two sons travelling to funeral killed in Wexford crash

Investigations are continuing into a road crash in Co Wexford in which four members of the same family were killed as they travelled to the funeral of a relative.

They have been named as Lily Ryan-Alexander and her husband Doug, who were both 75, and their sons, Doug Jnr, 52, and 49-year-old Steven Alexander.

The family, who lived in Oakland, Illinois in the US, had rented a car at Shannon Airport - writes rte.ie.

Theywere travelling in convoy to the home of Mrs Alexander's sister, Winnie Keevey, in Lacken, New Ross, where her wake was being held.

All four were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision between the car and an articulated lorry on the main New Ross to Wexford road at around 6.30pm yesterday evening.

A section of the road was closed but has now reopened.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to contact New Ross Garda station on 051 426030, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
