Co Kildare Gardaí are very concerned about rise in drink driving arrests among young men

Serious concerns are being expressed by Co Kildare Gardaí about the rise in drink driving arrests around the county, especially among young men.

Over the past seven days, eight people have been arrested for drink driving in Co Kildare - writes kildarenow.com.

Athy based Garda Séan O’Mahony, is urging people to plan ahead when they go out.

Garda O’Mahony said: “Plan your night, think do you need a taxi. Don’t be tempted to drive home after drinking.”

Warnings are being issued that there will be a ‘huge amount’ of Garda checkpoints around Co Kildare, especially over the Christmas season.

A Garda statement said: “It is troubling to see a sharp increase in arrests for drink driving while pedestrian and cyclist fatalities are a vulnerable group on the roads.”
