Pavee Point calls for calm after Dublin shooting

Traveller resource centre Pavee Point has appealed for calm following yesterday's shooting in Dublin linked to an ongoing Traveller feud .

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, spokesperson Martin Collins said if therow is not resolved, "it has the potential to escalate and it could even be worse next time, where potentially lives could be lost".

Baby John Collins, his 29-year-old mother Lynn Doyle and his 17-year-old uncle Mathew Collins were taken to hospitals after being shot atParslickstown Green in Mulhuddard - writes rte.ie.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Mr Collins said he would encourage those involved "to see sense, come back to the table and to understand that violence and conflict is not inevitable, it is entirely preventable".

He said a gardapresence is a really important deterrent as it would help to try to contain the situation and keep families apart.

He said there were "various attempts over the last number of months and indeed years to try and find a resolution through mediation", which have been unsuccessful.

The manager of the Blanchardstown Traveller Development Group has offered its services to help resolve the dispute.

Speaking on the same programme, Catherine Joyce said they would be willing to work with gardaí, community groups and those involved to try to come to a resolution once things calm down.

She called on both families to make sure there is no further escalation of the dispute or any retaliation for what happened yesterday.

Ms Joyce said what happened yesterday was fallout from an incident two years ago.
