Inner City Helping Homeless look to fill a WHOLE Luas with Christmas gifts

If you're going to be near Connolly Station today, here's how you can contribute to a great cause.

Inner City Helping Homeless and Transdev have teamed up for a special event that will see them attempt to fill an entire Luas tram with Christmas gifts for homeless children today - writes dublinlive.ie.

The volunteer organisation's annual 'Shoebox' campaign is calling on members of the public to put various items in a shoebox to help out the country's homeless this Christmas.

A special donation point is set to feature at Connolly Station Luas Stop from 7am to 7pm today, as ICHH and Transdev aim to beat the staggering 20,000 shoeboxes that were donated last year.

Last year the shoeboxes were donated to families in emergency accommodation, homeless hostels, women's refuges, age action groups and the people sleeping out on the streets of Dublin.

If you're going to be around Connolly Station today and want to help out, here's what to do:

  • Get a shoebox, mark it male or female and fill it with items such as: scarves, gloves, underwear, socks, chocolate/sweets, roll on deodorants, tooth brush/paste, soap, gift vouchers or a Christmas card.
  • If you would like to do a Shoebox for a child please mark it Male/Female and specify the age group it is for.
  • For more information you can contact fundraising@ichhdublin.comand shoeboxes will be accepted up until Friday the December 15.
  • Shoeboxes can be delivered to Inner City Helping Homeless Monday to Friday 10am-10pm at their office which is 72 Amiens St, Dublin 1

As well as looking for donations, the Inner City Helping Homeless team we also be inviting homeless people along to offer them breakfast, lunch, dinner, popcorn, soft drinks, tea and coffee, donuts, and haircuts, while Giggles the Clown will also be appearing to provide entertainment.

Speaking about this year's drive, an ICHH spokesman said: "Today sees our biggest event of the year as we partner once again with Luas/ Transdev to bring a smile to homeless peoples faces as Christmas fast approaches.

"With 3,194 children facing Christmas in emergency accommodation our Shoebox Appeal helps us to help them.

"We would ask anyone that is donating to our appeal to come along to the Luas Platform from 7am and donate your shoebox and help us beat last years total.

"Events like this are nothing without the support of the public so we hope to see lots of people there."
