TOWIE star's ex boyfriend given 20 year jail sentence for 'despicable' acid attack

Arthur Collins has been jailed for 20 years after carrying out an acid attack at a packed London nightclub.

Collins – who is the ex-boyfriend of reality TV star Ferne McCann and father of her baby – was handed the sentence at Wood Green Crown Court today with five years on licence.

The judge ruled that Collins was “dangerous”, meaning he will serve at least two-thirds of the jail term.

The thug winked to his family as he was led to his cells as they shouted: “Love you, Arth.”

He was previously found guilty of five counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and nine counts of actual bodily harm.

Last month, Collins, 25, was convicted of hurling the substance over a crowd at east London nightclub Mangle in April.

Collins today belittled the attack as a “silly little mistake” in a letter to the court.

Judge Noel Lucas QC said: “It was a hollow sorry – nor for what he had done, but for the effect of his actions.

“He has expressed not the least remorse for carrying and using a highly corrosive acid.

“The injuries must have been extremely painful and utterly terrifying."

He rejected a life sentence because “no one was blinded permanently and life itself was not in danger”.

The judge also hopes the long term will deter others from using acid.

He added: "This was a despicable act. You knew precisely what strong acid would do to human skin.

"Having thrown the acid over the club you slunk away and hid in the rear and pretended to be nothing to do with the mayhem you had caused."

A total of 16 people suffered chemical burn injuries and three people were temporarily blinded.

His lawyer today showed the court pictures of his acid attack victims taken from social media – some of them bikini shots – to try and prove they have “returned to some normality”.

Collins – who was celebrating Ferne's pregnancy – admitted throwing the fluid over clubbers but claims he thought it was a date rape drug that he snatched from two other men.

It also emerged in court he threatened a similar attack on an ex-girlfriend’s mum.

Collins received a caution for racially aggravated harassment after ringing the woman in the middle of the night and threatening her with acid and rape.

He told her: “You’re a c***, you’re a foreigner. I work for you.”

Collins has six previous convictions including threatening words, possession of cocaine, drink driving and assault.

Three of his victims today took to the witness stand to read their impact statements.

Phoebe Georgiou, 23, was confined to a hospital bed for weeks and feared moving could rupture her scars.

She said: “You couldn’t find a shred of human decency to admit what you have done. I have been given a life sentence by you."

Lauren Trent added: “You don’t know what it feels like to have acid thrown at you. To feel your skin dissolving, melting, blistering and you can’t do anything to stop it.”

Sophie Hall, 22, told the court: “I was in terrible pain. I couldn’t see properly. I was crying. I was sat on the floor for what felt like an eternity.

“I am scarred for the rest of my life and I’m only 22 years of age and I was just having fun with my friends and my whole world has been turned upside down.”
