'By getting a puppy at Christmas you're putting it at the worst start in life'

Dogs Trust is repeating its warning to the public to not give dogs as Christmas presents.

DOGS TRUST HAS for years repeated its mantra again and again – a dog is for life, not just for Christmas - writes thejournal.ie.

Despite this, abandoned or surrendered dogs continue to be a problem around Christmas as time, as a fluffy puppy quickly turns into an unwanted gift.

The charity has this year suspended all adoptions until 2018. We visited their rehoming centre in Finglas, Co Dublin, to find out more about the problems a new dog can cause during the festive season and – of course – to meet some of the residents.
