Two men caught with huge cache of guns 'not there for fun', says judge

Two men caught with an huge arsenal of guns and ammo were “not there for fun” a judge has said - writes dublinlive.ie.

James Walsh, of Neilstown Drive, Clondalkin and Jonathon Harding, of McNeill Court, Sallins, Co Kildare, were caught with 1,300 rounds of ammunition and 15 firearms including an AK47 and silenced machine pistols.

The two men, and a third unidentifiable men were nabbed in a garda operation targeting organised crime.

The pair had pleaded guilty before the Special Criminal Court to possession of firearms in suspicious circumstances.

Detective Inspector Noel Browne of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau revealed that the men were storing the guns and ammo in a warehouse inside the Greenogue Business Park near Rathcoole Dublin on January 24, 2015.

Gardai put in place a surveillance operation and after observing the men inside the unit they moved in.

Elite garda officers found a veritable arsenal of high power guns and ammo laid out on cardboard in an upstairs loft area.

The guns included an AK47, a sub-machine gun, nine revolvers, 10 magazines and huge 1,355 rounds.

Judge Tony Hunt said “the men were not there for fun”.

He adjourned the case for sentence at the three judge Special Criminal Court January 30.
