RTE soccer pundit Richie Sadlier has called on Irish men to recognise their importance in the upcoming referendum on the 8th Amendment.
'Too many men don't realise they have a key role in 8th Referendum' - RTE soccer pundit Richie Sadlier
The former Milwall player believes that many men feel the vote is a women's issue, and are reluctant to engage with the topic as a result -writes dublinlive.ie
But speaking on behalf of the Together For Yes Campaign, the Dubliner said that men have a "huge role" to play in the referendum, and he called on them to inform themselves about the debate.
He said: "I’m afraid that too many men don’t realise that they have a key role in this referendum.
"If they think they can stand on the side line, they are really saying that the status quo is ok."
He also called on men to "respect and protect women" by voting yes, saying that doing so would also save men from the damaging effects of watching the 8th amendment harm the women in their lives.
It comes as internal canvass reports by the Together For Yes Campaign indicate a hesitancy among male voters to engage in the referendum debate.
As a result, the Campaign has launched an awareness initiative to increase male involvement in the national conversation.
